The Walking Dead Season 5 | Slabtown

STOP READING TO AVOID SPOILERS

Right as the episode starts we see a woman opening her eyes. Then it's revealed that this woman, is Beth! So at least we know that she is currently still alive. It shows her laying in a hospital bed and everything around her is extremely clean and sanitary. It literally looked like it hadn't been touched by the walker infested outside world. She moves towards the window in the room she is isolated in and it's shown that we have returned to the city of Atlanta, which has not been in the series since the first few episodes of season one.

She rips her IV out and starts knocking on the door asking for help. Two people enter the room who introduce themselves as Dawn, who is the cop, and Dr. Edwards. We quickly learn that some people that belong to this group in the hospital "saved" Beth while she was in trouble and brought her here. Which Dawn then mentions that Beth now "owes" them.

It is then explained that everything costs something, whether that means cleaning, doing laundry, helping the doctor, etc. Even how much food you consume determines how much you will have to owe them.

It is quickly established that Dawn is more in charge than anyone and seems to have OCD and an anger problem, as she ends up smacking Beth across the face when she didn't even do anything wrong.

After a tough day, Beth finds a lollipop in the pocket of one of her shirts and that brings a smile to her face. She later finds out that it was the doing of a young boy also working in the hospital named Noah, who becomes Beth's only "friend" or person she can confide in.

Dr. Edwards seems to take a liking to Beth and seems to be a sane, person until he asks Beth to administer a drug to a sick patient that ends up killing him. When Beth questions Edwards he claims he told her a completely different drug. But Beth knows that Edwards had meant to kill the patient.

Noah and Beth then decide that they need to find some sort of an escape. Noah mentions that Dawn keeps a pair of keys in a drawer in her office and that he will keep Dawn busy while Beth sneaks in to grab them. As she goes into the office she notices that a woman patient that he helped earlier was now dead on the floor in a pool of blood. She grabs the keys but on her way out, the shady officer Gorman enters. Claiming they can work out some sort of "deal" and he won't tell Dawn. Beth agrees but instead hits him over the head with a jar which knocks him to the floor to be bit by his previous victim that had changed into a walker.

Beth escapes with Noah down into the basement. They have a few complications but they get outdoors. As they are running across the pavement through the walkers Beth gets caught by members of the group, but Noah somehow escapes, which makes Beth smile.

At the end of the episode we see Beth making her way down the hall carrying a pair of scissors, acting like she is going to stab Dr. Edwards. But then she sees someone carried in a gurney which turns out to be Carol! Which completely changes everything.

This episode definitely wasn't as action packed but I did like seeing what Beth was up to. The group in the hospital seems so eerie and definitely dangerous. I really liked the beginning shot since it was very reminiscent of the first scene of the whole entire series when Rick wakes up in a hospital. Also, now that Carol and Beth are locked up in this hospital I expect Daryl is REALLY going to run in there ready to spill blood.

I also really enjoyed seeing this different side of Beth. Up until now her character has seemed rather helpless towards killing and fighting so it's really great to see this tough side of her. I can't wait until Carol and Beth see each other and can figure out how to escape.

Do you think Carol is actually hurt or acting to infiltrate the group and save Beth? Is Noah with Daryl?

  1. My boyfriend thinks that Noah is with Daryl! I have a feeling that the cop that Beth killed actually kidnapped her and that's probably what happened to Carol, as well.

I'm almost getting tired of them splitting all of the characters up! But I am glad they didn't drag Terminus out as long as they did The Governer!

    2. I was pretty surprised that Terminus ended so quickly. I'm tired of all the characters being split up as well but hopefully it still remains as interesting and entertaining as it has been!

  3. I love The Walking Dead Beth has always been one of my favorite characters. I don't like that they make them all in separate stories now I liked it when they were all together but I suppose it would be more realistic story line. I think it's time they also came across some "normal" people now too to join them xox

    1. I agree! Everyone they run across has some crazy or awful motives. I'd like them to run into a few decent, strong people they can add to their group.

  7. Damn, I thought that this episode's beginning would have been just really simple after all that build-up. Daryl would say "oh yeah, she's just here. Hurry up Carol why ya walking so slow?!"
